What we believe

We are an Apostolic Pentecostal church.  We believe that God has placed us where we are to be the Bethany for Wichita.  Our goal is to be a place of refuge where the hurt and lost can find healing and restoration.


The Holy Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. This Statement of Faith is intended simply as a basis of understanding the definition of the Apostolic faith (as defined in Article III, Section 1, Subsection 1). This is in no way intended to be the ultimate guide for Apostolic faith, but is simply a fundamental statement of core beliefs of the members of this organization.

Section 1. The Inspired Scriptures

All scripture (Old and New Covenant/Testament) is given by inspiration of God, and are the revelation of God to man. It is the infallible authoritative rule of faith and conduct for CFM (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21).

Section 2. The One True God

The one true God has revealed himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM," the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed himself through multiple offices including the Father of all living, the Son of redemption, and Holy Ghost in empowerment (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10,11; Luke 3:22).

Subsection 1. Terms Defined

a. Trinity

The term trinity is not scripturally based and is a man-made doctrine with roots in paganism dating back to the Tower of Babel, and cannot be used in any way in describing God.

b. The Godhead

God is a spirit (John 4:24) and this one and self-same spirit took on flesh and blood through the virgin Mary to redeem mankind, revealing His true name to be (Jesus in English, J'shua in Hebrew John 5:43; Philippians 2:9). Thus showing that within him (Jesus Christ – the flesh) dwells all the fullness of the godhead bodily (Colossians 2:9).

Section 3. The Fall of Man

Mankind was created by God in His own image to worship Him. However, mankind entered voluntarily into sin through their own disobedience, and the communion of fellowship between God and mankind was broken. Since that time all of mankind is born in sin and is in need of redemption.

Section 4. The Salvation of Mankind

Because of mankind's fall God put into motion a plan of redemption that would require death, burial, and resurrection, that ultimately was fulfilled by Jesus Christ's sacrificial offering on Calvary and his subsequent resurrection.

Subsection 1. New Birth

Because mankind's nature is that of sin and corruption from birth, they must be “born again” of water and of the spirit as commanded by Jesus Christ (John 3:5). This experience begins with believing, and is followed by repentance (representing death), baptism in Jesus name for the remission of those sins (burial) and the infilling of the Holy Ghost (the spirit of God) as evidenced initially by speaking in an unlearned/unknown language.

Subsection 2. Holiness

Each “born again” believer should endeavor to lead a holy and separated life from the sin and corruption of this present world in an attempt to present themselves before God as a pure and holy vessel. While realizing that this goal is never truly obtainable in this life it still must be pursued with all earnest.

Subsection 3. Consistent Living

Using the aforementioned model (Article 4 Section 4 subsections 1-2) the believer can hope to reach eternal life and thus salvation, if they maintain their “walk” with the Lord.

Section 5. The Ordinances of the Organization

Subsection 1. Repentance

Repentance is the “turning away” from one's former life/life style through sorrowful prayer and actions that signifies the individuals “death” to self. This ordinance identifies the individual with Jesus Christ's death and prepares them for their “walk” with God.

Subsection 2. Baptism in Water

The ordinance of baptism by immersion is commanded in the Scriptures. All who repent and believe on Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (J’shua ha Meshach) for the remission of sins. Thus they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they also identify with His burial. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47,48; Acts 2:38, Acts 19:1-6, Romans 6:4, 1 Peter 3:20-21).

Subsection 3. The Baptism in the Holy Ghost

All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of God's spirit, also known as the baptism of the Holy Ghost, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of all members of the early Christian church. With it comes empowerment for life and service, the endowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4,8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31), as well as the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-26).

a. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Ghost

The baptism of believers in the Holy Ghost is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other (unknown/unlearned) tongues/languages as the Spirit of God gives them utterance (Acts 2:4). Thus speaking in tongues is the manifestation of the spirit as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:7.

Subsection 4. Sanctification/Holiness

Sanctification or holiness is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God (Romans 12:1,2; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 13:12). Scriptures teach a life of "holiness without which no man shall see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14). By the power of the Holy Ghost we are able to obey the command: "Be ye holy, for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:15,16). Sanctification is realized in the believer by the daily surrender and communion with God (Romans 6:1-11,13; 8:1,2,13; Galatians 2:20; Philippians 2:12,13; 1 Peter 1:5).

Subsection 5. Communion

The Lord's Supper, consisting of the elements--bread and the fruit of the vine--is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:4); a memorial of His suffering and death (1 Corinthians 11:26); and a prophecy of His second coming (1 Corinthians 11:26); and is enjoined on all believers "till He come!"

a. Communion wine

As the celebration of communion is based upon the Jewish feast of unleavened bread and the fact that the home was to be purged of leaven (yeast) prior to the feast the wine used during communion is not “wine” in our modern vernacular of the word, but instead either the celebratory wine of kedem or the pure fruit of the vine (grape juice) is used. Just as Jesus Christ was without sin the celebration should be free of leaven (yeast), which is a representative of sin.

Subsection 6. Foot Washing

Just as Jesus provided the illustration of submission and service to others by washing His disciple’s feet during their last supper together, we too demonstrate our submission and service to others in the body by ceremonially washing one another's feet.

Subsection 7. The Organization and Its Mission

The Church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of this body. Since God's purpose concerning man is to seek and to save that which is lost, to be worshiped by man, and to build a body of believers in His image, this organization is:

a.       To be an agency of God for evangelizing the world (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:19,20; Mark 16:15,16).

b.       To be a corporate body in which man may worship God (1 Corinthians 12:13).

c.        To be a channel of God's purpose to build a body of saints being perfected in His image (Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Corinthians 12:28; 14:12).

CFM exists expressly to give continuing emphasis to this reason-for-being in the New Testament apostolic pattern by teaching and encouraging believers to be baptized in Jesus Name and to be filled with the Holy Ghost. This experience:

a.       Enables them to evangelize in the power of the Spirit with accompanying supernatural signs (Mark 16:15-20; Acts 4:29-31; Hebrews 2:3,4).

b.       Adds a necessary dimension to worship and to the believers relationship with God (1 Corinthians 2:10-16; 1 Corinthians 12-14).

c.        Enables each believer to respond to the full working of the spirit of God in the expression of the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit for the edifying of the body of Christ (Galatians 5:22-26; 1 Corinthians 14:12; Ephesians 4:11,12; 1 Corinthians 12:28; Colossians 1:29).

Subsection 8. The Ministry

A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for the threefold purpose of leading the Church in: (1) evangelism of the world (Mark 16:15-20), (2) worship of God (John 4:23,24), and (3) building a body of saints being perfected in His image (Ephesians 4:16). This apostolic ministry is five fold in origin; Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers (Ephesians 4:11). Women may function in any teaching role within this organization so long as the position does not afford an authoritative position over a man (1 Timothy 2:12); this then precludes women from functioning in licensed roles such as a pastoral position.

Subsection 9. Divine Healing

Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the Atonement, and is the privilege of all believers (Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 8:16,17; James 5:14-16).

a. Anointing

The act of anointing is performed traditionally using virgin olive oil, though no significance with regards to or sanctimony surrounding the oil itself is maintained; it is simply used in obedience to the command to “call for the elders”, and since olive oil is traditional due to its historical manufacturing process and its use in the history of the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Subsection 10. Worship

Worship at CFM is lively and ecstatic. There is no requirement placed upon any individual to worship in a particular way. Each individual is encouraged to find their own style of worship, so long as it is not a hindrance to others and does not violate scripture (Psalms 150). Also disruptive influences upon the services themselves will not be tolerated, and therefore a determination of what is, or is not a disruption will be left to the judgment of the pastor.

Subsection 11. The Blessed Hope

The resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord is the imminent and blessed hope of the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:13; 1 Corinthians 15:51,52).

Subsection 12. The Endtime

CFM maintains that the period of time in which we now live is referred to as the end of days, or end times prophesied in scripture and that the physical unveiling of the antichrist is soon to come as well as the apocalypse and the physical return of Jesus Christ to this earth.
